Wood Floors and Floor Wax
Anyone that has wood floors in their home knows just how easily they are damaged just from everyday usage. Small scrapes and nicks seem to miraculously appear out of nowhere. This can be a traumatizing moment for those of us who love our clean shiny wooden floors.
The good news is that there is floor wax available these days that can make your used and worn out wooden floors look like they are brand new and have just been installed.
While most floor wax is made from beeswax and carnauba, there are waxes today that have a silicone base to them that will offer your floors and furniture a higher quality of shine. This will also fill in those small scratches and dings much like when you apply a clear coat on a vehicle will do. This will make your floors look great, and it is not very expensive either. In fact, you can get the quick shine floor wax that is basically sprayed on to a clean floor and rubbed on with a mop to save you even more time and money over the traditional aspect of waxing your wooden floors.
If you do want to go the more traditional route, the first thing you will need to do is make sure your floors are clean before waxing. You don’t want little pieces of dirt and debris being stuck under the wax. Sweep thoroughly and you can even mop with a damp sponge mop. This will make sure there is nothing to get stuck under your wax.
If your floors are old, you will also want to make sure they are sealed properly. If you wax a wooden floor that hasn’t been sealed right, you will notice dark and light splotches all over where the wax has set into the unsealed part of the wood.
Once you have it cleaned, sealed, and waxed, you will need to let it dry. This can take a couple of hours depending on the wax and amount used. After it is dry you can then buff it out to give it that nice shining glow that hard wood floors are known for. Now, your floor will look just as it did when it was installed.
